PYBUS. Found in years 1771-1782 for Jones and Craven, entry taker Lemuel Hatch spelled the name three different ways.
Henry & Mary had seven shildren. They had several hundred acres on either side of the Trent River. Henry's will dated 1782 is in Raleigh, NC. I also have a copy. As of 6/27/98, Henry may have married Mary (POTTER) in 1757 in Whitby England. This has not been confirmed yet. Their seven children (also PYBAS in some records) were John Pybus (died 1813); son John Pybas, Jr. Nancy Pybus Catron Pybus Henry Pybus William Pybus > Tennessee Nathien Pybus James Pybus > (b. Oct.16,1768, m. Sarah Hawkins , d. Mar 14, 1817)Duplin North Carolina>Son James Jr. (b. June 22, 1801, d. Mar 2, 1843) went to Tennessee.
I am from the James Pybus branch. We are looking for any records that would link Henry back to where he came. Family lore has it that they came up through West Indies. Also Henry's will is dated last day of November, 1782 and list his home as being in Jones county. How could this be so because of the county formed in 1797? The will leaves all to wife & children. A Samuel Bratcher lived on the land (10 acres). Henry left him a bed & a cow. He left his carpenter tools to be sold to pay his debts. The executors were John Pybas (us) and John Parry.
