My 4th ggrandfather William METTS was listed in the 1790 Newbern District of Jones Co, N.C. Census records. He subsequently moved to Ga where he died in Emanuel Co just before 1820. I have a 1935 obituary of my Great Grandmother, Sally FOY Carden, that states that her father, the late Captain CD FOY, and her mother, Frances, were from Jones County, NC. It also states that her brothers PC FOY and CD FOY lived in Maysville at the time. Also her sister Annie FOY MCCUTHEON lived in Maysville. I would be interested in learning more about these people.
Looking for information on James Jimmerson CARDEN born about 1843 (maybe in Orange County). He served in the Confederate Army and had several brothers. His parent's names were George and Mary. James Jimmerson Carden married Sally FOY (dau. of CD FOY of Jones County) James and Sally had a son, James Jarvis CARDEN, in April 1884 and several daughters. Thanks,
Francis DUVAL (1798-1845) married Nancy Ann BRYAN (1803-1883) on 15 Feb
1824 in Trenton. Nancy was born in Jones County on 25 Dec 1803. Does anyone
know who Nancy's parents were? Does anyone know where the old Duval Place is
and if there is a family cemetary on the property of the old Duval place? Is
Francis' father William Duval buried there or anywhere else in Jones County
or was he buried in Craven, Pitt, or Edgecombe County? William & Francis
appear on the 1810 census for Edgecombe County but I don't see any trace of
either of them after that in the census records except for a William listed
in Guilford in 1820 and a William listed in Craven in 1830. Why wouldn't
Francis show up on the census when his children were being born in Jones
County from the 1820's to the 1840's when he died there? Also, William L.
"Bill" Murphy mentions the DuVal Place in his article "The Thomas Murphy
Family" in The Heritage of Craven County book. Can someone put me in touch
with Mr. Murphy so I can get directions to the Duval place in Jones county
from him?"
