STEVENSON posted by Bill Allen on Sunday, January 10, 1999

I'm seeking info/descendants of a STEVENSON family, late-1700's, Craven Co. Silas S.(probably "Sears") Stevenson, Capt. of NC 10th Regiment, d. in Craven Co about 1792; children, Charles B., d. before Dec 1797; Silas Sears, a minor in 1793/4, alive in Apr 1816; Emila/Milly, m. Holland Bailey abt. 1798; Nancy Ann, m. Thomas Smith abt 1794, d. before Mar 1802; Dorothy, b. 1783, m. Asa Fonville, 1799, d. 1830 TN; John, d. before Mar 1802. Silas S. Stevenson was a son of James Stevenson, wife maybe Mary, d. in Craven Co about 1784; children, Silas S. Stevenson; John Stevenson, silversmith, d. before Aug 1781, wife maybe Elizabeth, had children Martin, Sally/Sarah, Amasa/Macey; Susan, m. Wm. Brice Fonville. This family was in Craven Co as early as 175x; and they also owned land (and may have lived ?) in Jones Co NC. Maybe, John Stevenson d. abt 1756; Benjamin Stephenson of the 6th Regiment; and Matthew Stevenson, listed in Craven Co taxables in 1769; were also sons or brothers of James Stevenson. Also seek info re the 10th NC Regiment, raised in April1777, also known as "Sheppard's Additional Continental Regiment." Lt. Col. Adam Perkins was Col. Shepard's second-in-command. Silas Stevenson is listed as a 1st Lt. in the 10th N. C., promoted to Capt. on 19 April 1777. He apparently retired 1 June 1778. This regiment was with the 1st & 3rd NC regiments in the "Philadelphia campaign" and at Valley Forge. The regiment was disbanded due to lack of strength in May 1788.

BARRUS, BRYAN, HINES, LIPSEY, RHODES, RICKETSON posted by Matthew Lipsey on Sunday, January 10, 1999

I am looking for any information on Wealthy LIPSEY, who may have married a BRYAN. Wealthy BRYAN d. in 1855. Her will was made in New Hanover Co., NC, as she was probably living with her daughter, Julia HINES & son-in-law Jesse. Her will was also recorded in Jones County, NC, though. Her daughter Mary RHODES & son-in-law Christopher C. were living in Jones County. The LIPSEY Family was from Jones--Wealthy's parents possibly being Timothy (d.1794) and Fanny LIPSEY (d. 1795).

In Fanny's will she asked that her friend Lucy BRYAN bring up her daughter, though she later asked that it be Bathsheba (RICKETSON) LIPSEY, her mother-in-law. The will was witnessed by Roscoe & John BARRUS (both of whom were LIPSEY descendants).

Any info on the BRYAN line, or any of this family, would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

YOUNG posted by Lydia Young Sides on Saturday, February 20, 1999

I am researching my YOUNG family who were in Jones County from approximately 1830 until later 1800s. I understand that the current Maysville was once Young's Crossroads, named for my GGgrandfather, John Young and his wife, Nancy who were outstanding residents along the White Oak River at the Jones-Onslow boundary. After my GGgrandparents had passed away and the property had been sold by their children, the town was named Crossroads and later to its current name. I would love to hear from anyone who has information about these Youngs and the history of Maysville. Thanks! Lydia Young Sides
