Will of William Rhem ~ 1830
In the name of God Amen
I William Rhem of the State of North Carolina & county of Jones,
planter, being of sound & perfect mind & memory do make and ordain this
my last will & Testament in manner of and following (to wit)
First, I hereunto confirm the property I have heretofore given to my
daughter Mary I. Perry including the Negro woman Rene with her
increase, and one dollar to her, her heirs & assigns forever
Second. I heareunto confirm the property I have heretofore given to my
daughter Hannah Perry including the Negro woman Nancy with her increase
& one dollar to her, her heirs & assigns forever
Third. I hereunto confirm the property I have heretofore given to my
son Joseph Rhem including three Negroes Grace, Sal & Mary with their
increase, and one dollar to him, his heirs & assigns forever
Fourth. I hereunto confirm the property I have heretofore given to my
daughter Susan Kincey, and one dollar, to her, her heirs & assigns
forever.
Fifth. I hereunto confirm the property I have heretofore given to my
daughter Elizabeth B. Loftin including two Negroes, Lydia and Peggy
with their increase & one dollar to her, her heirs & assigns forever.
Sixth. I give & bequeath to my son William B. Rhem all my Land on the
East side of Bever Creek privileges of timber on the old plantation to
be furnished as required to him his heirs and assignes forever.
Seventh. I give 7 bequeath to my son Melcher Rhem all my land lying on
the West side of Bever Creek where I now live to him, his heirs and
assigns forever.
Eighth. I give & bequeath all my Negroes at my death to be equally
divided between my sons Melcher & William B. Rhem to them their heirs
and assigns forever.
Ninth. My will and desire is that the residue of my property not named
& given in this my Will be sold, and that my Executors pay the balance
of the net proceeds after all due claims have been deducted to my sons
William B. and Melcher Rhem to be equally divided to them, their heirs
and assigns forever.
Lastly, I hereby constitute and appoint my beloved son William B. Rhem
& Hardy Perry Executors to this my last will & Testament. In witness
??? I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the first day of May in
the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and thirty.

presence of us who were present at the time of signing & sealing
thereof

Jones County Court of Please & Quarter Sessions December Term 1833.
There was the above last Will & Testament of William Rhem dec proved in
open Court in on the oath of John L. Koonce one of the subscribing
witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. At same time William B.
Rhem one of the executors named qualified.
