Will of Martha Sutton Simmons ~ 1848
State of North Carolina, Jones County
I, John L. Koonce Sheriff by R. H. Parsons Deputy Sheriff of Jones County attended by
the following Jury of good and lawful men viz WILLIAM B. BECTON, THOMAS
SMITH, ENOCH NOBLE, THOS. WILCOX, THOS. T? GOODING, THOS.
McDANIEL, AMOS SHELFOR ??, JOACHUM L. RHEM, FRANKLIN B.
HARRISON, AMOS HARRISON, THOS. HUGGINS, and LEWIS O. Bryan who after
being duly sworn according to law, proceeded on the 21st day of April in obediance to the
annexed writ to lay off and allot to MARTHA SIMMONS her downer and thirds in the
lands of ABRAM SIMMONS deceased as described in Said writ according to the
following metes and bounds. Beginning at the mouth of a big ditch on the East Side of
South west Creek up said ditch to when it forks then with the same south 27 west 22 pole
to the line of the ditch with said ditch a Southeast course to the head of the said ditch
Two gums marked with a Knife thus South 35 west outside of the fence to a sweet gun on
a ditch marked with a Knife then south 59 west to the out lines of the Said Simmons land
& with the lines of the same to the Creek then down the creek to the beginning And the
same widow has the privilege of cutting fire wood, rail timber out lets & c on the lands of
the said Abraham Simmons (dec) for the purpose of plantation use & C – and proceeded
also to put his in possession of the same.
Given under our hands and seals of the said jurors before me this the 21st day of April A.
