Will of Melcher Rhem ~ 1769
In the name of God Amen. I Melcher Rhem of the County afore Being very
sick & weak in body but Blessed be God of sound mine & memory doe make
and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form Followen
Impremis my will and desire first of all is that after my Decease my
body be buryd in a Christian like Decent manner and form at the
direction of my Executor hereafter to be named and as to the worldly
goods which it hath pleased God to Bestowe on me I doe Dispose of them
as follows
Impremes I give & leave to my Beloved wife Rachell to her heirs
forever Two Cows & Calves Two sows & piggs & the half of all my
Kitchen furniture my Best feather Bed & the furniture belonging to it
also – The Lent of a negro girl called Judy During the time she
continues my widow or lives Unmaryed.
Impremis my will & desire is that the survey or Tract of Land on
which I now Live be Divided by a Direct Line from a stake on the
South side of Bever Creek my Last Corner To the second Corner of the
said Land being a pine and I Give & Bequeath to my sone Joseph Rehm
The upper part or half of the said Tract of land to him & his heirs
& assignes forever Turnover
Item I give & Bequeath to my sone Jacob Rehm the other or lower part
of the Tract of Land adjoining the land I now live on beginning at a
stake the second Corner of the sd land and Running (with a Direct Line
to the white oke Branch) being here the - next three words not
readable – Down the Branch to the mouth To him & his Heirs & assigns
forever.
Item I give and bequeath To my Son in Law Samuel White the other or
Lower Part of the Tract of Land a part of which I have already given
to my sone Jacob
Item I give & Leave to my Loving wife Rachell my Bay riding mare and
one Hook & Harness & Tackle for plowing – also her widow hood in my
Dwelling house & plantation
Item my will & Desire farther is that all the Remainder of my Estate
to be sold & after my Just Debts are paid & Discharged the Remainder
to be Equaly Divided amonst all my Children & I Doe hereby Nominate
& appoint my sone Jacob Rhem & my sone in law Samuel White my whole
& Sole Executors of this my Last will & Testament in Testimony whereof
I have Hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this Ninth Day of
February in the year of Our Lord 1769.

Present His Majesty Justices
The within last Will and Testament of Melcher Rhem Deceased was Duly
Proved in open Court by the oath of William Lavender one of the
Witnesses hereto – at the same time Jacob Rhem and Samuel White
Executors therein name Qualified as such
