Roger A. Smith
TRENTON --- Roger Allen Smith, 66, of 231 Hwy. 41 West, Trenton, died
Saturday afternoon at his home. Roger loved his family, always taking
time for his children and grandchildren. He took pride in his position as
Captain/Detectives for the Jones County Sheriff’s Department before
retiring in 1999. Roger was a member of the N.C. Sheriff’s Association
and a member of Trenton Missionary Baptist Church. He was an avid sports
fan and loved fishing and hunting. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Tuesday, April 16, 2002, from the Edwards Funeral Home in Kinston with the
Rev. Wesley Moses and the Rev. Gary Silence officiating. Interment will
follow in Trenton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday
night at the Edwards Funeral Home. His parents, Dewey and Dorethea
Smith; two sisters, Ellen Jenkins and Elaine Jones; and two brothers, Jake
and Wesley Smith, preceded Roger in death. Survivors include his wife,
Edna Williams Smith, of the home; son, Glenn Allen Smith and wife, Sandra,
of Trenton; daughter, Teresa Hall Doane and husband, Michael, of Bridgetown;
brother, Lloyd Vernon Smith of Fayetteville; sisters, Linda Connor of Deep Run;
Dorothy Esposito of Charlotte and Marie Manning of Kinston; six grandchildren,
Kyle and Katie Smith, Sarah and Rachel Hall and Cassice and Michael Doane,
