Ruth Lowery Skinner Obituary
TRENTON—Ruth Lowery Skinner, 88, of Trenton died on Thursday, February
22, 2007, after several years of declining health. Ruth was born in Jones
County on April 1, 1918, daughter of the late John Raymond and Cattie Gilbert
Lowery of Trenton. “Miss Ruth” was married December 25, 1946, to the late
Adron Becton Skinner and they settled in Jones County. As a lifelong member
of Shady Grove United Methodist Church, she taught the adult class for 40 years
and sang in the choir. She had been president of the United Methodist Women
and served as other officers throughout the years. Mrs. Skinner taught in the
public schools of N. C. for 35 years, working in Hyde, Craven, Pitt and Jones
counties; however, most of her teaching was in Jones County. Funeral services
will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2007, at Garner Funeral Home
with the Reverends Tim Nichols and Ray Brooks officiating. Burial will be at the
Trenton City Cemetery. She is survived by one brother, W. W. “Skin” Lowery of
Trenton; three sisters, Verna Belle Lowery of Trenton, Louise Lowery Williams of
Kinston, Rena Lowery Manning of Greenville; a number of nieces and nephews
and many friends and neighbors. During the last couple of years, Mrs. Skinner
has had excellent care. A special thank you goes to her caregivers. These
wonderful caregivers made life easier and better for Ruth and her family. The
family will receive friends from 12-2 pm on Saturday prior to the service. Flowers
are welcomed or memorials may be made to the Shady Grove United Methodist
Church, 4359 Middle Road, Kinston, NC 28501.
