Note: John Leonard Hill was the son of Simon Hill and Mary E. (Gray) Hill of
Lenoir County. He married Mary Emily Lancaster, the daughter of St. Clair
Lancaster and Mary Ann (Free) Lancaster of Craven County. The Bible measure
4 2/3 X 7 2/3 and is in very poor condition. The front and back covers are
missing along with the title page, date, and some of the books. The Bible
begins with Exodus Chapter 8 and ends with Acts 2:17. Fortunately, the family
record is intact and appears to have been written on end pages. Most of the
writing is in ink and in some places difficult to read due to fading. The
pages are not numbered and it is uncertain if they are in the correct order as
they appear here. Care has been taken to preserve the original sentence
structure, punctuation, and grammar.
